New batch of coronavirus vaccine has arrived in Ukraine

Another batch of CoronaVac vaccine was delivered to Ukraine. "The next 500,000 doses of Sinovac Biotech's CoronaVac vaccine have just landed in Boryspil," Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov posted on the evening of May 9 on Facebook.

According to him, a total of 1.9 million doses of this vaccine was contracted, of which 1.215 million have already been received.

On Friday, May 7, Stepanov said that Ukraine has contracted 42 million doses of coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2021. In addition to the contracted amount, the country needs another 5 million doses.

During a week (from May 3 to May 9) in Ukraine, 108,698 people were vaccinated against COVID-19, of which 156 people received the second dose.

Since the beginning of the campaign, 864,089 people have been vaccinated, of which 446 people have completed vaccination (have received two doses).

Context. During the 24 hours on May 9, 2,817 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Ukraine. In particular, 159 children and 31 health workers fell ill.

Also during the last 24 hours:

  • people hospitalized—1,414;
  • deaths registered—119;
  • people discharged from hospitals—1,279.

The European Commission (EC) has proposed to allow entry into the EU for so-called nonessential reasons (for example, tourists) not only for people arriving from countries with a good epidemic situation, but also for all people who have been inoculated with the last recommended dose of the vaccine allowed by the EU. "This regulation could be extended to vaccines listed by the WHO for use in emergency situations," the EC said in a statement.
