Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine doesn’t rule out the possibility of direct negotiations with Russia. However, according to him, this can occur only after the territorial integrity of our country is fully restored.
"No one rules out the negotiation option, after all, any war ends with negotiations, but the question is, what position you are in at the negotiation table. Today, negotiations with Russia are held on the battlefield, and this is the only type of negotiations that Russia really understands. However, we are ready to sit at the table as well, provided that it is about the complete restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity," he pointed out in his interview with RBC Ukraine.
The minister added that no negotiations with Moscow in any configuration were considered at the time. He believes that the Kremlin will show serious interest in negotiations only after it’s weakened to the maximum possible extent. In this way, the Russian leadership will try to "rapidly stabilize the situation".
"But then, a reasonable question follows: at the moment when we’ll be conducting a successful offensive and liberating our territories, why would we need to negotiate anything with the aggressor? Our ultimate goal is the liberation of our territories," Kuleba added.
The minister doesn’t rule out a scenario where part of Ukrainian land will be liberated from the invaders militarily and the remaining part diplomatically.
Context. According to the Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian army has already liberated almost 6,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory from the Russian invaders.
