Mr. Austin announced his visit on social media.
The head of the Pentagon said in his November 20 statement that he came to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian leaders.
"I’m here today to deliver an important message – the United States will continue to stand with Ukraine in their fight for freedom against Russia’s aggression, both now and into the future," Lloyd Austin wrote.
The photo posted on X shows that he arrived in Kyiv by train. The U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, met the Defense Secretary at the railway station.
