The first batch of 21 Leopard 2 battle tanks is to be delivered to Ukraine from Germany and Portugal in late March. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced it on Wednesday, March 8, according to RND.de.
"I can tell you that I have just learned that the 18 German Leopard 2A6 tanks and the 3 Portuguese ones are coming to Ukraine this month," said Pistorius.
According to him, the tanks are coming together with trained crews.
The delivery of Leopard 2 main battle tanks is part of the German military aid to help Ukraine defend against Russia.
On January 25, the federal government announced its goal to "quickly put together two tank battalions of Leopard 2 tanks, both consisting of 31 tanks, for Ukraine."
