Russian invaders force Kherson region of Ukraine to join ruble zone

The Russian invaders are planning to force the occupied areas of the Kherson region of Ukraine to use the Russian ruble from May 1.

According to CNN, this was stated by the appointed deputy chairman of the military-civilian administration of the Kherson region Kyrylo Stremousov.

According to him, the transition period will take up to four months. During this time, residents will use both rubles and hryvnia, and then completely switch to rubles.

Who is Kyrylo Stremousov, that "deputy chairman of the Kherson region" appointed by the military administration of the Russian Federation?

In the summer of 2019, Stremousov ran for people's deputies as a self-nominated candidate from Kherson constituency No. 182 with a result of 1,178 votes, or 1.74%. In 2020, he ran for the position of Kherson mayor with a similar result — 1,017 votes, or 1.37%.

Context: On Tuesday, April 26, the Russian invaders appointed an occupation administration in Kherson from local collaborators. This happened a few days after the elected government was overthrown and the building of the Kherson City Council was taken under control.
