The occupation forces are shelling ash dumps of the Zaporizhzhia thermal power plant to raise clouds of radioactive dust. This was stated by the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
"The Russian fascists are using a new method of creating a necessary appearance at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to manipulate popular opinion and the international community. The mortar shelling of Enerhodar suburbs has been recently targeted at a specific aim: the ash dumps of the Zaporizhzhia TPP," the intelligence said.
Ash dumps are sites where ash produced by thermal power plants is stored.
It should be noted that the waste stored in ash dumps contains toxic substances at extremely high concentrations, and their radioactivity level is higher than the natural background radiation by at least 2.5 times. When this ash dries, it forms dust,which can move significant distances.
Therefore, Russian shelling of ash dumps is raising clouds of dust, which are carried by the wind around the suburbs of Enerhodar.
Context. On Tuesday, August 23, Russian occupation forces once again shelled Enerhodar. After the shelling, smoke was seen in the area of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
