Harvesting in Ukraine is progressing faster in 2023 than a year ago because of the weather, MP Dmytro Solomchuk, member of the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy of the Verkhovna Rada, reported in his commentary for Ukrinform.
How much crop will be harvested in Ukraine in 2023?
According to the MP, the total amount to be harvested this year across all crops is approximately 70 million tons. So far, 18 million tons of grain have already been threshed, which is 16% of the planned amount.
Farmers face significant obstacles when harvesting crops. Thus, according to Solomchuk, the equipment "stands idle more often than works in the field" in western Ukraine due to recent rains. However, the most difficult is harvesting in the territories of the Kherson, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions that were retaken from the invaders. The risks to the lives of farmers are the greatest there.
Eastern and southern regions, where early harvesting has already been completed, are now preparing to harvest sunflowers, the MP said.
