There is no point in talking to Vladimir Putin if the European Union wants him to understand that he is isolated. This was stated by Kaja Kallas, Prime Minister of Estonia, in an interview with Euractiv.
"I feel that if everybody keeps calling him, he doesn’t get the message that he’s isolated. So if we want to get the message through that actually ‘you are isolated’, don’t call him – there’s no point. I see no results. After all those talks we saw Bucha, Irpin and Hostomel – and no sign of de-escalation," said Kallas.
According to her, since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine this February, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron have become almost the only EU leaders to hold telephone conversations with Putin. Estonia’s Prime Minister noted that efforts to stop Putin's military machine in Ukraine, as well as isolate Russia politically and militarily, should continue.
