Court orders NABU to enter information into Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations regarding possible abuse by Klimkin, Poroshenko

Author

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) must enter information on the criminal offenses involving fifth President Petro Poroshenko and Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations. That's the ruling of Kyiv's Solomiansky District Court, according to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

The charges are abuse of power and official position. The court ruling, however, does not specify what exactly what crimes Poroshenko and Klimkin are suspected of having committed.

The court ruling must be executed within 24 hours.

Context:

  • State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) Director Roman Truba earlier stated that Poroshenko is involved in 11 criminal proceedings. A series of cases against the Poroshenko was initiated by Andriy Portnov, former deputy administration head under disgraced ex-President Viktor Yanukovych. Portnov returned to Ukraine after Volodymyr Zelensky was elected president.
  • Poroshenko on August 12 was questioned by the SBI in a case reportedly involving tax evasion and related to the purchase of the Pryamiy TV channel. Poroshenko has denied all charges of impropriety.
