The Associated Press news agency on August 14 announced it has changed its style for the capital of Ukraine to Kyiv, in line with the Ukrainian government’s preferred transliteration to English and increasing usage.

AP included a reference in stories to the former spelling of Kiev, noting that the food dish "chicken Kiev" will remains "chicken Kiev."
Peter Leonard, AP's correspondent in Ukraine in 2014, was nonplussed by the decision, noting the agency has not had a full-time journalist working in Ukraine since 2015.
