Regional gas companies owned by oligarch Dmytro Firtash are suspected of violating the law on economic competition in connection with the appointment of David Anthony Howard Brown as head of the supervisory board in all the companies.
That's according to the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU), which notified the public about same on July 23, 2019 on its website.
"Concentration of ownership without permission occurred on the market for the distribution of natural gas by local (local) gas distribution systems," the AMCU said, noting 18 regional gas companies belong to the GroupDF, in Dnipropetrovsk, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Zaporozhia, Sumy, Kyiv, Kryvyj Rih, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Rivne, Sumy, Tysmennitsa, Kharkiv, Kharkivhor, Khmelnytsky, Chernihiv and Chernivtsygaz.
AMCU said it assumes these companies all are part of a single business entity and could have negative consequences for the market.
"Concentrations can have negative consequences in the form of monopolization of the commodity market, abuse of a monopoly (dominant) position, restriction of competition by substantially restricting competition in the entire market or in a large part of it," AMCU said.
