Largest US-based construction company Bechtel to begin constructing Kyiv by-pass road

The final stage of the tender for constructing the first section of the Kyiv By-pass Road (KBR) connecting the M-07 Kyiv-Kovel-Yahodyn and M-06 Kyiv-Chop highways has been completed. The largest US-based construction company Bechtel Overseas Corporation that assessed the scope of work at 5.3 billion UAH won the three-stage competitive selection.

The State Agency of Motor Roads of Ukraine calls the Kyiv By-pass Road one of its flagship projects, so it tried to involve a reliable contractor with experience in delivering such complex infrastructure projects for its construction. The construction of a modern autobahn will begin immediately after concluding an agreement between Ukravtodor and Bechtel Overseas Corporation.

What the new road will be like

The Americans will construct the KBR first stage—an 18-kilometer section that will connect the highways M-07 Kyiv-Kovel-Yahodyn and M-06 Kyiv-Chop. It will be a new road of the 1st category with bridges, overpasses, open-air car park, a weight control apron, wildlife crossings for animals, and an overhead road as part of the highway. In addition, a WIM system, noise screens, and modern lighting will be installed.
