20% of Ukraine’s arable land is still occupied

More than 20% of Ukraine’s arable land belongs to temporarily occupied territories, said Mykola Solskyi, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, at a press briefing on Wednesday, January 4.

Quote"Roughly more than 20% of arable land is not controlled by Ukraine—these are lands under occupation," said Solskyi.

On the land that remains occupied, mostly winter wheat, corn, and sunflowers were grown. According to the minister, these territories are the most contaminated with mines.

During the briefing, Mykola Solskyi also said that agricultural producers obtained more than UAH 90 billion (around $2.5 billion) in loans in 2022.
