The Parliament of Ukraine declared inadmissibility of Russia's monopolization of victory over nazism in World War II.
The corresponding draft resolution № 7343 was supported by a total of 290 deputies.
The statement of the Verkhovna Rada affirms that the victory in World War II is a joint achievement of the anti-Hitler coalition. At the same time, the Ukrainian people and a number of liberation movements played a significant role in achieving this victory. The war itself is perceived by the Verkhovna Rada as a common tragedy for peoples of the world.
The Rada emphasizes that Russia's crimes in Ukraine must be stopped. At the same time, the Russian fascist Putin regime must be universally condemned and defeated by the joint efforts of the entire civilized world.
Ukrainian parliamentarians are convinced that after Ukraine's victory over Russia in the current war, the Ukrainian people will celebrate a new national holiday — the day of victory over contemporary Russian nazism.
"Now, just as eighty years ago, Ukraine is fighting an insidious aggressor, but today it is Putin's Russia. A state which in the same way encroaches on our independence and territorial integrity is also trying to destroy the international security system and threatens peace throughout Europe, and which also speaks of its uniqueness in trying to impose its own worldview on others. The only difference is that in 1939-1945 the enemies were the nazis, and today they are Russian fascists — the modern Russian version of nazism. And this struggle has been going on every day for more than eight years", says the statement.
Among the reasons for Russia's war against Ukraine, deputies name turning celebration of victory over nazism into a cult. The purpose of this cult is the propaganda of war, supremacy over other peoples, and appropriation of the status of "general winner".
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, is instructed to ensure that this statement is sent immediately to national governments and parliaments of foreign countries, as well as to international organizations and their parliamentary assemblies.
