Ukraine is considering the possibility of creating a medium-range air defense system

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is considering the possibility of creating its own medium-range anti-aircraft missile system, that is, with a destruction range from 20 to 100 km.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the country Andrii Taran, congratulating the armed forces personnel on the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"To strengthen the air defense, the possibility of creating a domestic medium-range air defense system is being considered. And on the basis of An-178—a long-range radar detection and control aircraft," Taran said.

According to the missile range, the systems are subdivided into:

  • long-range air defense systems (LR) with amissile range of more than 100 km;
  • medium-range (MR) with a missile range of 20 to 100 km;
  • close-range (CR) with a missile range of 10 to 20 km;
  • short-range (SR) with a missile range of up to 10 km.
