Ukraine can produce 5,000 to 7,000 155-mm artillery shells per month. This is the most effective level achievable by the country, given its baseline capabilities.
Serhii Zhurets, an analyst for Defense Express, provided the numbers in a commentary to espreso.tv.
Zhurets cited Poland’s experience, where the production of 155-mm shells was launched in 2015, while the agreement with Czech license owners dates back to 2010. Therefore, full-cycle production took five years to establish.
Although work to create 155-mm rounds was carried out in Ukraine as well and the program was developed, its implementation into practice progressed too slowly, the analyst argues.
He also defined the most adequate shell production rate for Ukraine, taking into account its capabilities.
"The required volume of ammunition hasn’t been achieved so far. However, the country is striving to speed up ammunition production in cooperation with Western partners," said Zhurets.
The first steps have already been taken, and the main thing now is to ensure the normal production rate of at least 5,000 to 7,000 rounds per month, as the analyst emphasized. According to him, these numbers are quite high, given the country’s baseline capabilities, which we had before the full-scale Russian invasion.
Earlier, reported that Ukraine aspired to become the largest European arms manufacturer. The country has already achieved initial success in the production of rockets.
