Shelling in Kherson: details
"Kherson is shelled! The enemy is targeting evacuation assembly points. At least three casualties have been reported so far: a civilian woman, a police officer, and a rescuer. They are all being given the necessary help," the interior ministry reported.
Later, the ministry updated the information to report that eight people had been injured, including an EOD diver and EOD driver from the Mykolaiv region who came to rescue people from flooded areas.
According to the ministry, the shelling started exactly during the evacuation of people whose homes were flooded.
"Russia left people in the lurch in the occupied part of the Kherson region. Furthermore, it hampers Ukraine’s efforts to save what’s most precious — human lives," the ministry emphasized.
Suspilne reported that one person was killed as a result of the Russian shelling of Kherson; however, this information was pending confirmation.
[Updated at 5:06 p.m.] According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, nine people were injured, but no one was killed.
On June 7, the Russian army shelled the liberated part of the Kherson region 34 times. It fired 193 mortar, artillery, and MLRS Grad rounds and used kamikaze drones.
As was reported earlier, Russian forces blew up the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant on the night of June 6. On the western bank of the Kherson region, the disaster involved an area with around 16,000 people. The evacuation of people from danger zones is underway.
