While the attention of the world community is riveted on the coronavirus and the fight against the pandemic, the flu has not gone anywhere. The Head of the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunisation Fedir Lapii stresses that the presence of both viruses in the human body simultaneously significantly increases the risk of death, so the population needs to be vaccinated against both.
During the program broadcast on the TV channel Dim, the physician noted that the presence of COVID-19 and one of the influenza strains complicated the state of the person and "the risk of death doubles". According to Lapii, experts are already talking about the beginning of the influenza wave among Ukrainians.
"For example, I drive with a safety belt. I do not know when I will need this safety belt. It's the same with the flu vaccine. I got a flu shot a few days ago. And I'm ready for the season," the immunologist stresses.
Additionally. Recently, the Chief Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin announced that Ukraine recieved 1.5 million doses of influenza vaccine. Some of this amount was already in the country's pharmacies, he added.
According to the Ministry of Health, during this epidemic season, Ukrainians will be able to get vaccinated with the following flu vaccines: the Dutch Influvac Tetra, the French Vaxigrip Tetra, and the Korean GC Flu Quadrivalent. The last two are already available for purchase.
Context. Recall that at the end of September, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to allocate $1.2 million for the purchase of influenza vaccines to immunize people from occupational risk groups.
