On the night of January 10, two super-long-range drones fell on the Engels-2 Russian military airfield in the Saratov region, where Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers are deployed. The news was published by local media outlets.
The drones have reportedly been shot down, and the aftermath of their fall is unknown.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed in the morning that a Ukrainian drone was shot over the Saratov region. The local governor said that the drobe was intercepted over the Engels district. According to him, there were no casualties.
The air base that was attacked is a permanent station for the 121st Sevastopol Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment and the 184th Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment, which operate Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers. The enemy uses these aircraft to launch missile strikes on Ukraine.
The previous drone strike on the Engels airfield was reported in late 2022. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have shot down three drones, and their fragments reportedly killed three service members.
