Scandal with Russian Ambassadors: Ukraine has expelled Russian Consul from Odesa

After Russia had declared the employee of the Embassy of Ukraine in Moscow persona non grata, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of our country declared the Consul of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Odesa an undesirable person to stay on the territory of Ukraine and instructed him to leave the country until April 30, 2021.

As reported on the website of the MFA, this decision is a response to the continuation of the anti-Ukrainian campaign launched in the Russian Federation and another manifestation of unfriendly actions against employees of diplomatic institutions of Ukraine.

The Ministry also noted that the Ukrainian diplomat had not been engaged in activities incompatible with diplomatic status, namely, had not performed actions that had been beyond his diplomatic and consular functions, of which he was accused by Russia.

Quote"In the case that the Russian side continues provocations against employees of diplomatic institutions of Ukraine in Russia, we reserve the right to take further actions in response," the MFA summed up.

Context. Earlier, Ukraine had expelled a senior diplomat of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Kyiv in response to Russia's actions against the Ukrainian consul Oleksandr Sosoniuk.
