On Thursday morning, September 1, despite the IAEA mission having arrived in the city, the Russian invaders shelled Enerhodar with mortar and rifle fire. The shelling began at approximately 5:00 AM, the city’s mayor, Dmytro Orlov, reported.
"Enerhodar. Since 5:00 AM, continuous mortar shelling has been ongoing. Volleys of automatic gunfire can be heard," he wrote.
According to the mayor, preliminary information suggests that apartment buildings, private houses, a shop, and kindergartens were struck.
The self-proclaimed occupation government accused Ukrainian forces of the attack and reported that three civilians had been killed. One more person was injured.
"The killers themselves, who have been shelling Enerhodar with mortars and automatic rifles, using artillery and aviation (helicopters are circling above the city) since the morning, have reported casualties as a result of their shelling‼" Orlov emphasized.
The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Starukh, said that Russian invaders are deliberately shelling the route previously approved for the IAEA mission to move from Zaporizhzhia to the ZNPP. The UN advance team cannot move further due to security concerns.
Context. The visit of the IAEA team to the Zaporizhzhia NPP occupied by the Russians was scheduled for September 1.
