US to share data on Ukrainian corrupt officials with Ukraine

Author

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) of Ukraine has requested the United States to provide the agency with information from American tax and law enforcement agencies about the foreign assets of Ukrainian officials. In the future, the department wants to use these data in the courts against these officials.

This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian agency

The NAPC stressed the importance of such information, since the agency constantly receives a lot of reports about the assets of Ukrainian officials abroad, including in the United States. The agency’s priority is to ensure inevitable punishment for corruption, including for those who are trying to hide their income and wealth. For this, timely and qualitative data is of particular importance.

The NAPC assured that its representatives and the United States agreed to establish an exchange of information on assets.

Context. On June 8, Erik Woodhouse, an official of the US Department of State, told how the US plans to combat Ukrainian corrupt officials. The main means of struggle will be financial sanctions against corrupt officials and a ban on entry into the United States under Section 7031(c).
