The Verkhovna Rada has approved the resignation of the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov.
This decision was supported by 291 deputies.
Avakov was in charge of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for seven years. For the first time, he was appointed to a position in the government headed by Arseniy Yatsenyuk (2014-2016).
Avakov may be replaced by Denys Monastyrskyi, the Head of the Verkhovna Rada's Committee on Law Enforcement, whose candidacy was nominated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Context. Avakov wrote a letter of resignation on July 13. Subsequently, it became known that the Rada would consider the decision to dismiss him on July 15.
