President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions against Russia’s nuclear industry, which includes Rosatom and other companies.
The decree was published on the president’s website.
"Today we have another sanctions step by our country against the terrorist state. The NSDC decision on sanctions against Russia's nuclear industry has been put into effect. This is not the last decision regarding this industry of theirs. The point of our steps is also to bolster the efforts of our diplomats to extend global sanctions to this part of the Russian aggression machine," said Zelenskyy in his evening address.
He emphasized that Russia was the only country in the world that allowed its military to shell nuclear power plants and use NPPs as a cover for shelling. Russian missiles have also repeatedly followed trajectories over Ukraine's nuclear facilities.
Another reason for the sanctions, according to Zelenskyy, is that Russia uses the nuclear industry as one of the elements of foreign expansion to put pressure on other states.
On the president’s website, a list of 200 entities that were sanctioned for a term of 50 years was published. It includes Rosatom and its subsidiaries, as well as a number of institutes, research centers, and plants.
