The Venice Commission approved President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s draft law on criminal liability for the false declaring. In addition, the 2020 declarations will have to be resubmitted in order for those responsible to be held accountable for false information in them.
The Head of the Anticorruption Action Center Vitaliy Shabunin wrote about this on his Facebook page.
E-declaration without prison punishment was resumed in 2020, however, until March 2021, the deputies promised to return the punishment for lying in the declarations.
However, the Head of the parliamentary Committee on Law Enforcement, Denys Monastyrsky, sent the corresponding presidential draft law to the Venice Commission.
"The deputies rightly hoped that the submission to Venice Commission would delay the voting in the Rada after the declarations were submitted, and that means that it would be impossible to punish with prison for lying in them," Shabunin noted.
