Ukraine seeks to find an alternative to the Grain Corridor

The Joint Coordination Center currently has only two active inspection teams. In addition, Russia has completely blocked the approval of vessels shipping to the Pivdennyi port since May 2. For the vessels shipping to the Odesa and Chornomorsk ports, an average of two inspections per day are performed.

Yurii Vaskov, Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, said this at the Grain Ukraine — 2023 conference.

Quote"We believe that our partners will be able to unblock the work of the Pivdennyi port. However, another question of no lesser importance today is: will the deal be extended after July 17, 2023? Our position is simple: the deal must keep working and be extended for a one-year term, the port in Mykolaiv must be included, and inspection teams must work so that the vessels aren’t delayed," Yurii Vaskov noted.

At the same time, the official emphasized that the work to explore alternative routes for the Grain Corridor was underway. Last week, the government adopted the procedure for ship owners to receive compensation in case their vessels are damaged after arriving in the opened sea ports of the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. ₴20 have been allocated from the budget to be used by ship owners in case the Grain Corridor stops functioning.
