Restrictions imposed by EU countries on the import of Ukrainian grain must be lifted and should not be extended. Dmytro Kuleba, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, said this in Prague during a joint briefing with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, according to Radio Free Europe.
The minister stressed that Ukraine was firmly opposed to any national restrictions that may be introduced by a group of neighboring countries. According to him, this move would violate the rules of the common market and be in breach of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement. But most importantly, this move will go against the principle of solidarity that the European Union is based on.
Kuleba also underscored that Ukraine was ready to work with the five countries set to extend the ban "to find a solution."
"But we urge these countries not to take the issue of grain export hostage to their domestic political processes. It will not be easy, but everyone should understand that Ukraine, being very grateful to these countries for military and humanitarian assistance—in this particular issue—if they behave like this, they will leave us with no chance but to fiercely defend our rights and the rights of Ukrainian farmers," the minister emphasized.
