Ukraine may receive five more Patriot batteries to protect the sky by the end of 2024, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing Gregory J. Hayes, the chairman and chief executive officer of Raytheon Technologies.
Raytheon Technologies Corporation plans to increase production to make up to 12 batteries per year. If this target is met, the company will be able to ship more air defense systems to Ukraine.
Hayes said that he was very surprised at the effectiveness of this weapon.
Ukrainian defenders now have two Patriot systems. By using them, the Armed Forces of Ukraine shoot down most of the enemy’s missiles, including ballistic ones.
Earlier, Yurii Ihnat, speaker of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that even massive Russian attacks aren’t likely to deplete Ukraine’s stockpiles of missiles for the Patriot system.
