War, tariffs, and unemployment: top 15 personal problems of Ukrainians and the country

Sociological group Rating conducted a survey on the problems of Ukraine and Ukrainians. The main ones are the military conflict in Donbas, unemployment, low salaries, and so on.

Top 15 problems of Ukraine:

  • the military conflict in the east of Ukraine (47% of Ukrainians consider this a big problem);
  • lack of work, unemployment (37%);
  • the coronavirus epidemic (35%, this figure has doubled since July 2020);
  • low salaries or pensions (27%);
  • bribery and corruption in the government (25%);
  • incompetence of the authorities (19%);
  • increase in utility tariffs (19%);
  • impossibility to access quality medical care (16%);
  • insufficient level of social protection (10%);
  • inflation (9%);
  • increase in crime, insufficient security on the street (6%);
  • unfavorable conditions for the development of small and medium-sized businesses (6%);
  • social stratification (4%);
  • impossibility to obtain a quality education (3%);
  • lack of freedom and democracy (1%).

Top 15 problems of Ukrainians:

  • low salaries or pensions (38%);
  • increase in utility tariffs (35%, in the summer of 2020 it was 24%);
  • the coronavirus epidemic (25%, in the summer of 2020 it was 12%);
  • military conflict in the east of the country (24%);
  • inflation (23%);
  • lack of work (23%);
  • impossibility to access quality medical care (16%);
  • bribery and corruption (14%);
  • incompetence of the authorities (13%);
  • insufficient level of social protection (9%);
  • unfavorable conditions for the development of small and medium-sized businesses (6%);
  • social stratification (4%);
  • increase in crime (4%);
  • impossibility to obtain a quality education (4%);
  • lack of freedom and democracy (1%).

The survey was conducted on March 24—28 by the method of personal formalized interview. The Rating interviewed 2,000 Ukrainians aged 18 and over in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas.

Context. Earlier, The Page wrote that the poverty rate in Ukraine among the working population in the first six months of 2020 was 42.4%, and by February 1, 2021 it increased to 50%.
