The National Agency on Corruption Prevention put Unilever, a British corporation known in Ukraine for such brands as Domestos, Lipton, Axe, and Dove, on the list of international sponsors of war.
The announcement was made by the agency’s press service.
Unilever is one of the world’s leaders in the food and household chemicals markets. It owns more than 400 brands and operates 280 production facilities.
According to the NACP, after February 24, 2022, Unilever promised to suspend all imports and exports of its products to and from Russia. However, during one year of the war, Unilever Russia's profits doubled from €56 million in 2021 to €108 million last year.
Unilever owns enterprises in Omsk, Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, and Tula.
"Unilever cannot say it is opposed to the war while at the same time contributing to Putin’s war machine. We have listed them as an International Sponsor of War because their hundreds of millions in tax contributions to the Russian state budget are helping fund its war against Ukraine and could therefore be indirectly funding a Russian mercenary group. Unilever has a new CEO, Hein Schumacher, so they need a new start to live up to their values of human rights. Unilever must leave Russia now or history will record its complicity in this war," the Head of the NACP, Oleksandr Novikov, emphasized.
Earlier, the National Agency on Corruption Prevention listed the automobile company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., which owns Geely and Volvo, as an international sponsor of war.
