The first freight train with 50 containers of industrial equipment was sent from the city of Chongqing in southwestern China to Kyiv, marking the successful opening of the first direct rail freight route between Chongqing and Kyiv.
According to the schedule, the train will cross the state border through the Erenhot border checkpoint of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China and arrive in Kyiv in mid-September, the news agency Xinhua reported.
Previously, export deliveries from Chongqing to Ukraine were carried out in transit through the territory of Belarus or Poland. Now there will be direct deliveries of goods from Chongqing to Kyiv.
It is noted that the new railway route will foster trade links between western China and Europe.
Context. In June 2021, the first direct container train from China arrived in Odesa region. The welcoming ceremony was held at the container terminal DP World TIS Pivdennyi.
In June 2020, direct transportation of containers from China to Ukraine began. During the year, 22 container trains departed and arrived. Also, the number of container trains on the route from China to Western Europe passing through the territory of Ukraine has significantly increased.
Reference. Chongqing is one of the key centers of rail freight traffic on the China—Europe routes. This is the first China—Europe freight train route. According to local authorities, in the first half of 2021, 1,359 freight train departures were carried out by the Yuxinou railway (Chongqing—Xinjiang—Europe), and that is more than 50% more than a year earlier.
