With or without Hungary, the EU member states are certain to approve €50 billion for Ukraine, says Kuleba

The EU member states are certain to approve €50 billion for Ukraine, regardless of Jungary’s possible veto. The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, said this on the air of the national telethon.

He noted that the European Council had postponed its final resolution on the allocation of €50 billion for Ukraine until early 2024 not because Hungary could have vetoed it. The 26 EU countries rather wanted to give Budapest time to agree to join them in allocating the money. In doing this, the European Union wants to avoid the situation where decisions are repeatedly made without one country.

Quote"The decision for Ukraine to receive this money will be made. The only question left unanswered is whether all 27 EU members, including Hungary, will do it together, and Hungary was given a month to hold additional negotiations — or this money will be allocated by 26 countries of the European Union without Hungary," said Kuleba.

The minister added that the primary concern is the internal unity of the bloc. The 26 countries are now doing the best they can to preserve it. However, even if they fail, the money will still be allocated.
