Rheinmetall obtained permission from Germany to build a factory in Ukraine

Rheinmetall, a German arms manufacturer, obtained permission from Germany’s Federal Cartel Office to establish a joint venture with the Ukrainian Defense Industry group (formerly Ukroboronprom). The factory will be built in Kyiv.

Rheinmetall announced this on its website.

Rheinmetall applied for permissions from other federal agencies and expects positive replies from them as well.

Quote"The joint venture is to be based in Kyiv and engage in service and maintenance as well as the assembly, production, and development of military vehicles," the message says.

In the first stage, cooperation will focus on the maintenance and repair of vehicles Ukraine has received from both Germany and other partners.

In later phases, the cooperation partners intend to jointly produce selected defensive products in Ukraine, Rheinmetall says.

Quote"Looking ahead, cooperation between Rheinmetall and UDI could also involve the joint development of military systems by teams of Ukrainian and German specialists, including for subsequent export by Ukraine," the manufacturer summarizes.

Earlier, Rheinmetall, as well as American Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin, started building a modern plant to produce fuselage sections for the F-35 fighter jet. The plant will be located within the Weeze airport in the district of Kleve, Western Germany.

Rheinmetall also planned to finish the building of its own defense enterprise this autumn.
