The Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on the introducing activities of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine (BES) in the second reading. 296 People's Deputies supported this decision.
According to the law, the BES must perform the functions of analytical assessment, prevention, detection, termination, investigation, and disclosure of criminal offenses in the economic sphere. The law provides for appropriate amendments in the Code on Administrative Offences and in the Criminal Code, in particular, regarding the jurisdiction and powers of the Bureau of Economic Security.
The establishment of the BES was one of Ukraine’s obligations to the International Monetary Fund.
Context. Earlier it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers had chosen Vadym Melnyk as the Head of the Bureau of Economic Security.
On January 28, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading and as a whole a bill on establishing the Bureau of Economic Security that would deal with crimes in the economic sphere. On May 12, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a draft resolution on establishing the Bureau of Economic Security.
