Property, assets belonging to son of ex-PM Azarov arrested

Two villas and land in Italy, bank accounts in Switzerland, Luxembourg and Italy belonging to Oleksiy Azarov, son of former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, are now under arrest.

The ruling was made by the Kyiv Court of Appeal, which transferred some property to the office of the National Agency for the Identification, Investigation and Management of Assets Obtained from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA). The latter received two houses and a land plot in Ukraine.

The court agreed with the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) in the case of a bribe UAH 140 million bribe. According to investigators, Mykola Azarov and his son received this money for appointing former head of the Presidential Administration, Andriy Kliuyev, the first vice-premier.

What was arrested:

  • 10 bank accounts opened in Switzerland, Luxembourg and Italy by companies associated with Oleksiy Azarov, along with two houses and land located in Italy in the municipality of Olbia (Sassari), the city of Golfo Marinella, which are owned by AGOSTO 2012 s.r.1 . and two cottages, three land plots, three residential buildings, two households and a garage in Ukraine.

The court decision cannot be appealed. The PGO is conducting an investigation against Mykola Azarov. He is charged with participation in a criminal organization that illegally took possession of liquefied gas worth about UAH 2.2 billion.
