The Nova Poshta postal and courier company announced the initiation of the development of two demining robots for water and land operations. To implement the initiative, the company has teamed up with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
According to Nova Poshta’s press service, the company has taken responsibility for the technical aspect of the work and the search for partners, while the Emergency Service is defining the main requirements for the robots being developed.
"Ukraine is now one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world. More than 77 thousand square miles, or nearly a third of the country’s territory, need to be cleared of mines. Using robots is the fastest way to do it. In Nova Poshta, we have accrued extensive experience in the field of robotization. Together with Ukrainian startups and our own R&D team, we have developed and implemented three robot models in our facilities. Now we are going to use this expertise in our joint project with the rescuers to help Ukraine return to peaceful life faster," said Nova Poshta’s Director for Development, Oleksii Taranenko.
The company plans to create at least 20 demining robots of each type.
Context. According to the State Emergency Service, Ukraine has become the country with the world's largest mine-contaminated territories. The Service estimates that complete removal of mines from Ukrainian land and water areas would require almost a decade.
