As of September 1, 18.16 billion cubic meters of gas have been accumulated in underground gas storage facilities (UGSF). This was reported by the Interfax-Ukraine agency with reference to Naftogaz of Ukraine.
By the beginning of the heating season, Naftogaz plans to accumulate more than 19 billion cubic meters of gas. The company believes that such a volume will be sufficient for a stable heating season, even with possible additional needs of TPPs facing a lack of coal in stockyards.
Ukrainian UGSFs store 3.3 billion cubic meters of gas owned by foreign traders and private resident companies in the "customs warehouse" mode.
According to Acting General Director of Ukrtransgaz Sergiy Pereloma, one should not be afraid of problems relating to the possible re-export of this gas.
"During four months of the 2021 injection season, non-residents re-exported 0.06 billion cubic meters. Everything else is either sold on the Ukrainian market, or remains in the UGSF," he noted.
Context. The government's order No. 586-р of June 9 obliged Naftogaz to provide at least 17 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves in the country's underground storage facilities by mid-October.
Natural gas prices at the Ukrainian Energy Exchange have reached a new historic high and exceeded 20,000 UAH per cubic meter, VAT included, subject to prepayment. This gas price has become the highest on the market since its opening in 2015.
