A memorial service for Leonid Kravchuk, the first President of Ukraine, who passed away on May 10, was held at 11.00 on May 17 at the Ukrainian House in Kyiv, Ukrainska Pravda reports.

Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, Oleksandr Tkachenko, the Minister of Culture, Oleksandr Moroz, former Verkhovna Rada speaker, and brothers Hryhoriy and Ihor Surkis came to pay their respects to the body of the first President. The body of the first President of Ukraine was transported from Munich. He will be buried at the Baikove cemetery in Kyiv.
Leonid Makarovych Kravchuk was the first President of independent Ukraine, the last Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR, and a Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. He was a Hero of Ukraine, a recipient of the Order of Liberty, and a Full Knight of the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise.
Context. Leonid Kravchuk passed away on May 10, 2022, after a long illness. In the summer of 2021, Kravchuk had heart surgery followed by prolonged rehabilitation. At the moment he was the head of the Ukrainian delegation in the Trilateral Contact Group dedicated to resolving the military conflict in parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
