The American Chamber of Commerce said that during the lockdown from January 8 to January 24, Ukraine has been banned from selling household chemicals, tools, clothing, press, and other basic goods not only in specialized stores, but even in supermarkets.
It is allowed to sell only foodstuffs, medicines, medical products, hygiene and communications products, feed, veterinary drugs, seeds, plant protection products. Other goods can be purchased only through targeted delivery, and because of that supermarkets will have to close departments with "prohibited" goods or prohibit sales when paying at the checkout.
The American Chamber of Commerce believes that such restrictions are illogical and claims additional losses from this norm (introduced by the Cabinet of Ministers decree No.1236 of December 9) and consumer dissatisfaction.
"In the opinion of the Chamber’s member companies, such a decision is not only a direct restriction of the consumers’ rights in the necessary products purchasing, but also potentially lead to conflicts in stores," the American Chamber of Commerce said urging the Cabinet of Ministers to revise the relevant decree text and cancel restricting visitors' access to other products.
It is worth recalling that according to government decree No.1236, all stores are prohibited from selling goods on retail space during the January lockdown, except for those 60% of which sell food, medicines, medical products, hygiene products, communications, veterinary drugs, feed, seeds, plant protection products.
