Today, on March 7, Hero of Ukraine Dmytro "Da Vinci" Kotsubailo was killed in action near Bakhmut.
"A Hero of Ukraine, a volunteer fighter, an iconic person, bravery incarnate, a fighter of the 67th Separate Mechanized Brigade, a battalion commander. He was killed in action near Bakhmut, fighting for Ukraine," said President Zelenskyy in his evening address.
Dmytro Kotsiubailo took part in the Revolution of Dignity. In 2014, aged 18, he volunteered as a fighter to counter Russia’s invasion in Donbas.
Dmytro was a commander of the 1st Mechanized Battalion, DaVinci Wolves.
In 2021, the president awarded him the Hero of Ukraine title and the Order of the Gold Star. He was the first volunteer fighter to be awarded the Hero of Ukraine title during his lifetime.
