Death of Shishov: US and UN urged to investigate possible murder

The United States is closely following the investigation into the death of the head of the Belarusian House in Ukraine, Vitaly Shishov, US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price stated. Also, the UN responded to Shishov's death, and his girlfriend called on the Belarusians to start more strong protests.

According to Price, Shishov was an important member of the Belarusian civil society, who was forced to live outside his country due to repression by the Lukashenko regime.

The US also strongly condemns the harsh repression by the Belarusian regime, Price stressed.

He recalled that alarming incidents have taken place recently, in particular the forced landing of a RyanAir airline and the situation with the Belarusian athlete Kristina Timanovskaya at the Olympic Games, whom the Belarusian authorities tried to take to Belarus by force.

Also, the UN reacted to the death of Shishov, the Spokesperson of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said that all circumstances should be thoroughly investigated.

Ukrainian law enforcement agencies intend to check the version of the murder disguised as suicide. In particular, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took control of the investigation.

At the same time, Shishov's girlfriend Bazhena Zholud called on Belarusians to stop peaceful protests in Belarus and take more strong action.

"I ask you all: stop walking with flowers and posters. We will not solve anything by peaceful protest. Yesterday it happened to Vitalikㅡtomorrow it will happen to you. And they don't care," Zholud stressed.
