"Death for Firtash": Servant of the People prepares changes in the gas market—the source

The Servant of the People faction is considering a draft law on changes in the gas market. A source in the faction told The Page about this.

What changes in the gas market does the draft law provide:

  • it is planned to liquidate small regional gas companies;
  • switch all regional gas companies to work through ProZorro;
  • stimulate the population transition to gas from Naftogaz.
Quote"In short, this is death for Dmytro Firtash who now supplies gas to 89% of the population. By this decision, Naftogaz will take 99% of the market," the source said.

The Regional Gas Company (RGC) group that belongs to Dmytro Firtash includes 18 regional gas companies: Vinnytsiagaz, Volyngaz, Zhytomyrgaz, Zakarpatgaz, Zaporizhgaz, Kyivoblgaz, Dniprogaz, Dnipropetrovskgaz, Kryvorizhgaz, Mykolaivgaz, Rivnegaz, Sumygaz, Ivano-Frankivskgaz, Kharkivgaz, Kharkivgorgaz, Khmelnitskgaz, Chernivtsigaz, and Chernihivgaz.

Context. Recently, the Antimonopoly Committee established that regional gas companies that are part of Firtash's RGC group had set unreasonable requirements during public procurement of household gas meters from November 2016 to July 2018.

Earlier, Firtash 16 regional gas companies received fines totaling 278 million UAH. The Antimonopoly Committee saw in the companies’ a misuse of a monopoly position and an illegal additional charge for used gas volumes to the population.
