Centravis, a Ukrainian company, together with Duncha France, has joined a project to develop a hydrogen-powered car in the European Union.
This is the first hydrogen car project in the history of Centravis. The company has developed a range of precision seamless stainless steel tubes H2FIT for it. The tubes will be installed in lightweight trucks to contribute to the EU net-zero commitment.
These tubes will be used, in particular, to produce four small trucks based on fuel cell technology. Centravis will supply the entire circuit for the system, including high-pressure sections up to 700 bar and normal-pressure sections up to 300 bar for the vehicle hydrogen feeding system.
"There are numerous debates about the future of cars with internal combustion engines now. It is still too early to say about them going extinct, but we see the world does not stand still, and our company is ready to offer technology and solutions for vehicles of a new type. We consider this project to be a proof of our expertise and a step forward in our cooperation with automotive companies," said Andrii Krasiuk, Centravis production director.
Hydrogen-powered cars run on hydrogen fuel cells. They emit no carbon dioxide and, therefore, do not harm the environment. In addition, the engine of such cars works silently, refueling is faster than in electric cars, and the range is up to 500–600 km, which also exceeds that of most electric cars.
The development of hydrogen-powered cars is hindered by the cost of fuel and the underdeveloped infrastructure of gas stations. However, 100,000 hydrogen-powered trucks are planned to be produced in the EU by 2030, and 1,500 gas stations will be built for them.
Honda, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and Hyundai are currently producing passenger cars powered by hydrogen.
