The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with armor-piercing rounds that contain depleted uranium. Such rounds are highly effective in defeating modern tanks and armored vehicles. Baroness Annabel Goldie, Minister of State for Defense, officially announced it on Monday.
"Alongside our granting of a squadron of Challenger 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine, we will be providing ammunition, including armor-piercing rounds which contain depleted uranium. Such rounds are highly effective in defeating modern tanks and armored vehicles," said Annabel Goldie, answering a question asked by a member of parliament.
Depleted uranium is used in producing tank armor and armor-piercing ammunition, and also as counterweights to stabilize planes. Depleted uranium is a toxic chemical and a radiation hazard for health if it gets into the body.
