Banksy, the pseudonymous British street artist, confirmed that it was he who created the murals in Kyiv, the outskirts of Irpin, Borodianka, and Hostomel. According to The Art Newspaper, the rumors about him having visited Ukraine started mounting after a number of works resembling the artist’s style had been spotted in a few cities.
One mural depicts a man said to resemble the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, being thrown to the floor during a judo match with a young boy. Putin is known to hold a black belt in the sport.
Another work shows two children using a metal tank trap as a seesaw. A third mural, painted within the ruins of a building in Borodianka, is of a gymnast doing a handstand. One more piece of artwork shows a female rhythmic gymnast performing with a ribbon.
In addition, Banksy confirmed his authorship of four more artworks. They depict a woman wearing curlers and a gas mask and holding a fire extinguisher; a man in a bathtub, and an armored truck loaded with a nuclear warhead.
Banksy is a pseudonym of an anonymous world-famous street artist, political activist, and film director. Banksy's real name is unknown, and his biography is subject to speculation. The artist gained international recognition for his characteristic style of satirical street art and graffiti executed in a distinctive stenciling technique.
