Thus, on March 3, 868 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Kyiv—this is the largest number of patients per day since January 12. In general, on March 3, the number of patients exceeded 10,000 for the first time since December.

In addition, the beginning of the third wave of coronavirus was announced by the Chairman of the Committee on Public Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance, MP from the Servant of the People, Mikhail Radutsky.

According to him, the reason for the rapid spread of coronavirus is that Ukrainians have relaxed and have stopped adhering to quarantine norms.

He also noted that the increase in the number of patients may be connected with mutations in the coronavirus. Moreover, he stressed that vaccination and the emergence of herd immunity can stop the disease.

At the same time, Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov said that Ukraine had prepared for the third wave of the pandemic and would try to reduce its severity through vaccinations. He noted that today 6,142 artificial lung ventilators are available for the needs of patients with coronavirus.

The main indicator for talking about the beginning of the coronavirus third wave is the rapid increase in the number of patients.

What to expect from the coronavirus third wave

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the third wave of coronavirus had begun in Ukraine. He also announced a severe lockdown if most areas got into the "red" zone of epidemic danger.

"This is a very disturbing issue, we see an increase in the number of patients every day. Unfortunately, it must be stated that the third wave of the epidemic has begun in Ukraine. These are figures and statistics that we see and that cannot be interpreted in any other way."

He also noted that the vaccination process in the world was just beginning and would last at least two years. And all this time, anti-epidemic rules will have to be observed.

At the same time, Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, suggested that in 2022 Europe will leave the pandemic a thing of the past due to vaccinations and herd immunity. In particular, it is expected that the coronavirus will cease to pose such a threat to humanity and will simply remain with people like the flu.

In addition, scientists believe that the coronavirus is likely to manifest locally and in a milder form.
