"Deeply concerned." US responded to resignation of Naftogaz Supervisory Board members

The United States expressed concern over the resignation of the Naftogaz three independent members. Ned Price, the State Department Spokesperson, stated this at the briefing.

Quote"We are deeply concerned about the ongoing crisis in the Naftogaz leadership, including the resignation of independent members of the Supervisory Board on September 8," he said.

According to him, it is necessary to find a solution that complies with the principles of corporate governance provided by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Washington expects the achievement of a rational management system in Naftogaz.

Price also welcomed the participation of the Ukrainian government in a positive solution to this issue.

Context. The fact that three members of the supervisory board of "Naftogaz" had announced the termination of their powers became known the day before.

The day before, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that a competition for the posts of four independent members of the company's Supervisory Board would be announced in the near future.

We may add that in April the government dismissed the Head of Naftogaz. Yuriy Vitrenko, the current Acting Minister and former Executive Director of the company, was temporarily appointed to this position, which was sharply criticized in the US and the G7, and five of the six members of the Naftogaz Supervisory Board publicly announced the termination of their powers.
