Oreshnik, Shahed, Iskander: how many foreign components Russian weapons contain

During the Fair Play conference, which focused on introducing additional sanctions against russia, a journalist from The Page visited an exhibition of downed Russian UAVs and missiles. This weaponry contains imported components, including parts from the EU and the US.

What these weapons are and which countries they contain parts from — more details in this report.

Oreshnik missile: are there foreign parts inside

An expert from the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Examinations, who asked not to be named, told journalists that the Oreshnik is a medium-range ballistic missile capable of striking up to 5,000 km. According to the Institute, this is likely a modernized version of the intercontinental ballistic missile Yars, though others claim it is the RS-26 Rubezh.

The expert said it was launched at Dnipro on November 21, 2024, from the Volgograd region, specifically the Kapustin Yar testing range. The missile covered a distance of 800 km.

He also noted that this missile is designed specifically to carry a nuclear warhead.

According to him, the weapon contains many Russian-made components from 2013–2014. Some parts date back to 2023. As for foreign parts in the Oreshnik, other representatives of the Institute refused to answer The Page’s questions, citing the secrecy of the investigation.

Kh-101, Kalibr, Iskander-K: which foreign parts are used

The expert explained that the Kh-101, Kalibr, and Iskander-K missiles contain foreign-made microprocessors, particularly from well-known American companies.

Meanwhile, Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Serhii Naumuk stated that his agency has established that a single Russian Kh-101 missile may contain up to 250 electronic components of Western origin.

In the same type of missile that struck Okhmatdyt on July 8, 2024, 59 such parts were identified. These included processors, matrices, transceivers, and integrated circuits.

How many foreign components are in the Shaheds

According to the Institute’s expert, today’s Shahed drones contain a large number of Chinese electronic parts. However, he asserts that without well-known manufacturers, "they simply cannot operate".
